Meet Marnie

Marnie is an experienced leader and navigator of compassionate climate and culture. Over her 25 years serving as a leader, Marnie has inspired teams to build shared values within their organizations and leverage conscious leadership practices, enabling organizations to thrive with a sense of purpose. Skilled in educational leadership, public speaking, and change theory, Marnie has supported leaders and organizations in re-establishing the joy in their workplaces. She believes that the most powerful path to a culture of belonging and connectedness is through compassion for self and others. Mindfulness is simply one tool used to harness that inner sage. She earned her Doctor of Education (D.Ed.) focused on Curriculum and Instruction from Indiana University of Pennsylvania, has been trained in Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (MBSR), is a practicing, certified yoga teacher and is a certified workplace mindfulness facilitator. In addition to her other roles within organizations, she has served as the Chief Mindfulness Officer and successfully developed mindfulness programs within organizations.

Meet Rasheeda

Rasheeda Coston, MS

Rasheeda Coston has worked with leaders and emerging leaders as a thought partner to support them in maximizing and realizing their personal and professional goals. As a Leadership Coach Psychologist, she works to understand and share knowledge about how the mind and behaviors, both conscious and unconscious, impact our interactions with others, thus affecting leadership. Rasheeda quickly realized that current leadership supports often exclude the perspectives of BIPOC leaders. In order to recognize, uplift, and harness the power of BIPOC leaders while continuing to improve diversity within organizations, she shifted her focus to examining leadership frameworks and techniques that address racial stress, burnout, isolation, and exclusion that BIPOC leaders experience in predominantly white spaces. Rasheeda earned a BS in Psychology and an MS in Leadership Coaching Psychology.  She is certified in various assessment tools, such as the California Psychological Inventory and the Thomas Kilmann Conflict Mode Instrument. Additionally, Rasheeda holds a certificate in Diversity, Equity and Inclusion from Cornell University.

About Be Hip

Be Hip Leadership was envisioned shortly after I earned my yoga teacher certification. I had been working toward that goal for 12-months and three days after completing the certification, I discovered I was going to need a complete hip replacement.  This was NOT what I wanted to hear.

I thought my dreams of teaching yoga were over. What I learned about myself and my leadership during that recovery period changed the way I showed up for myself and for others. It required me to do less and “be” more. It required self-compassion, reflection, humility and it meant I needed to rely on others and ask for help. None of these things came naturally to me. I was a Type A, martyr style leader. I had to trust and lean into discomfort.  That experience changed the way I was leading within my organization and it was the incubator for Be Hip Leadership.

Rasheeda and I worked together in a non-profit organization for over fourteen years. While we come from different backgrounds, we have a lot in common. We are both deeply invested in the human experience, especially as it relates to leadership and organizational culture. When George Floyd was murdered in May 2020, it impacted us both in very different ways, but one thing we shared was an intense drive to change the world for the better. We both wondered how we could keep showing up in workspaces every time another social and moral injustice occurred. Through these challenges, we successfully implemented an organizational wide diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging (DEIB) program that set us on a path to a more equitable system. In addition, we were navigating the well-being of the folks in the organization during a global pandemic, and the mindful, compassionate leadership program was born. This program has been replicated in other settings and states with great success. Today we offer these services to other socially-minded organizations who are looking to infuse a philosophy of conscious leadership through mindfulness, compassion, DEIB work and coaching.

“When we are working to shift the culture of our organization, it can be easy to get overwhelmed and lose sight of the end goal. But when you stick with it, celebrate the small but meaningful victories, and acknowledge that this is not a quick fix, the awe, humility and gratitude that comes when you witness transformational change is immeasurable.”
